The Big Little Word: IF (Part 5)—Linked via Facebook
Speaker: Pastor Barbara
Scripture: Proverbs 2:1-5, 9-11 (NKJV)

This is the conclusion of my series on IF and discusses our IF situations relating to faith. How many of you know that it is impossible to grow in faith in God if we do not understand, accept, believe and obey His Word? This evening we will set the stage by going back to the reference we read in part three from the book of Proverbs.

This evening we are going to be looking at IF situations that pertain to our obedience to God. We will be examining the importance that God places on our obeying Him in the face of IF situations. Sometimes I don’t believe that we truly understand how critical it is to always say… Yes, to God.

This evening you will have an opportunity, as you hear the lesson and read the scriptures, to honestly assess where you believe you are in terms of this one question: Do I really believe this deep down in my heart? Only you and God will know where you truly are. So, please be brutally honest with yourself because if you, no, if we don’t start from a place of honesty with ourselves, how can we have an honest conversation with God about why we are struggling to believe what the Bible says?

As we go through this series of lessons looking at different scriptural references, I want you to think about what the word IF truly means and how this word can define how we interact with God. Think about how many times have we said, God if You do this for me then I will do that for You”? Think about what this statement says. This statement is placing a condition on something we are willing to do for God only after He first does something for us. The word IF applies pre-conditions for something else to happen.

This evening we’re going to look at Grace and Holiness. This will be the third and final lesson in my brief series, THE GRACE OF GOD. In the first two lessons, we looked at how grace impacts sin, our justification, our salvation, our righteousness and our faith. The reason we are talking about the impact of grace is, because of what grace actually is.

God’s grace is sufficient for us – but we have to have faith in it for it to do what God desires for it to do in our lives. You are made righteous in the eyes of God through grace. You accept God’s grace in the work of Jesus Christ by faith. You cannot separate the righteousness bestowed upon us and our faith from God’s grace. We serve an awesome God!

God’s grace is active and it’s powerful. It is available to all, especially to His children. Why do I call this out? Because we know that God is gracious to those who have yet to accept Him because He desires that they come into knowledge of Him. That being said, He is not doing that selectively. Anyone who calls on Him and accepts His Son as their personal Savior will be the recipient of eternal life. It is a free gift because of God’s amazing grace.
